The Basement Office/Rec Room

When designing the house we made sure that the basement ceiling was at least nine feet high. The plan was to remodel it for a office/rec room. The basement was used as ad hoc storage when we first moved in and was full wall to wall.

The original plan was to use the one side of the basement for the rec room. This would require people to walk through an unfinished storage area. It was decided to move the storage area to the other side and make the room L-shaped thus incorporating the stairs into the room.

What's Next (4/07) : Will string the electric and work on completing the framing around the basement door and stairs.

The first winter Sean built storage shelves to help organize the vast quantity of stuff. (12/05)

The first wall is completed and even insulated. The insulation is loose for now. This area will end up being a storage room.

Started down the long wall. Had to offset the wall from the foundation because of the piping leading to the septic tank. Will end up building a closet to cover the clean out. (2/07)

Couldn't build the walls the traditional way on the floor because of all the stuff we still have to sort through. Each board was hand fitted into place. (2/07)

Moved everything again so that work can begin on the storage room. (2/07)

Our next move is to finally sort though all this stuff as we really haven't needed it in over a year now.
