Retaining Wall

Sean start the retaining wall in April of 2006. He worked off and on as weather dicated until completion in July.

There is one spot on the wall where dirt is working its way out which means something happened to the barrier fabric. Once spring ever comes that section will be dug up and repaired. (4/07)

Have some concerns about runnoff at the end of the wall that I'm not sure how to handle at this time. Probably will address is over the summer. (4/07)

Because of the pitch of the front lawn we decided to extend the wall and provide a barrier between the lawn and driveway. (Aug 05)

The builder started a retaining wall but only went as far as he needed to for the steps.

Dug out for the first row of block. (Apr 06)

Had to dig out the run off on numerous occassions from the many heavy down pours.

Finally completed the digging out of the trench for the first blocks.

Each pallet consisted of 48 80lb blocks.

Had to break off the cap stones of the existing wall because they were glued in place.

Laying the first blocks were difficult because they had to placed straight and level.

Almost completed the first row. (May 05)

More runoff of mud had to be removed.

A full dump truck load of gravel was delivered for drainage. Ryan and Colin help shoveling the stone.

Gravel was added as each row was put into place.

Drainage pipes from the gutter down spouts converge at the end of the wall. (Jun 06)

Other views of the work in progress.

The newly paved driveway makes the wall look so much better.

Added an extra row of blocks to the steps to help keep the soil in place. What a pain to remove the cap stones. (Jul 06)

The remaining blocks were added and cap stones were cut to make a nice finish.

More soil was brought in the level the yard out alittle better.

Completed wall took approx. 250 blocks, 40 cap stones, 8 corners, half a dump truck of gravel and 4 big rolls of landscaping fabric and cost about $2,500 (not including labor).

Everything was done by hand and estimate that at least 20 tons of material was moved.
