The Swing Set

The old house had a nice combination fort and swings. Now that the kids are older Sean felt they really wouldn't use a fort and he wanted a swing set that was taller for longer swings. A metal set like seen in school playgrounds was too expensive and didn't look very nice. So he decided on a tall wooden version that would only allow a few swings.

In December 06 a wind storm blew a rotted hardwood down unto the end of the swing set. Luckly it was permanently cemented in place. Surprisingly it held up pretty good but one leg and all the metal hardware need to be replace. (12/06)

The old swing set.

The two supports for the new swings. (8/06)

Added the top 6x6.

Two friends helped tipped the frame into place.

Stands about 10 feet tall. It looks alittle crooked as the bolts are loose. They will be tighten after the legs are buried about a foot in the ground.

Put the swingset in the corner. Need to dig holes and place legs in cement filled holes.

On 12/02/06 a cold front with strong winds came through dropped a hardwood tree onto the end of the swingset.

It appears the swingset twisted and the weight of the tree snapped the one leg.

The steel brackets on both ends also bent.

The bottom six feet of the tree was hallow.

Rick my neighbor is always on the look out for firewood. With his chain saw it took about an hour and a half to clean up the mess.

Repair will include taking it apart, replace the brackets and one leg. Another spring time project.
